Adopt a Tiger: Adopt a real tiger with this Adopt a Tiger gift pack and help safeguard the tiger species. The WWF Adopt a Tiger is a great cause. When you adopt a tiger you not only safeguard a tiger, but preserve the future.

Adopt a Tiger

In the early 1900's, world tiger population was estimated at around 100,000. By 1950, this number had dropped to 40,000.

The reasons for their demise include poaching (fur, Chinese medicine, exotic recipes - 1 tiger per day is poached in India), deforestation (insecticides have reduced the danger of malarial mosquitoes in India, making land habitable that was previously home to tigers), and human expansion.

The lowest point of tiger population was about 4000 in the 1970s. Due to conservation efforts, the total number of tigers in the wild has increased modestly since then to around 5000-7000 today.

At least twice that number exist in captivity.

The tiger is now officially classified as an Endangered Species.

Now you can make a difference with our Adopt a Tiger gift pack. Your sponsorship will go towards helping WWF to protect wild tigers, and build a future in which humans live in harmony with nature.
